GOLF COMMUNITY GUIDE

Ancala

A guard-gated club community in the foothills of the McDowell Mountains, with a Perry Dye course and room to spread out.

Ancala sits higher than most of Scottsdale, tucked against the McDowell Mountains just off Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and Via Linda. Behind the gate, 850 acres of Sonoran Desert hold a Perry Dye golf course and a little over 500 custom homesites, many of them on hillsides that look back across the Valley toward Camelback. It is quieter and more residential than the resort communities to the north, and closer to the rest of the city. One thing buyers should know early: membership at Ancala Country Club is separate from owning a home here.

At a glance

  • Golf: a private 18-hole, par-72 championship course designed by Perry Dye, opened in 1991.
  • The club: clubhouse, pool, fitness center, tennis and the Overlook Kitchen & Bar.
  • Homes: 542 custom homesites, from golf course lots to elevated hillside estates, plus a small collection of casitas.
  • Location: east Scottsdale off Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and Via Linda, 85259, guard-gated.

The market right now

Ancala is a small, steady market: 25 homes sold in the past year and 6 for sale now. Most are large custom homes, with a median of about 4,760 square feet, so prices reflect the land and the views as much as the house.
